Why Keto is not Working for You

There are four main reasons why keto may not be working for you, they are: Not Enough Fat and Protein, Not Enough Sleep, Poor Quality Fats and Oils, and Digestive Environment.

  1. Not Enough Fat and Protein. Making the switch from sugar as a fuel source to fat as a fuel source can take some time. Temporarily increasing all your ratios of Fat, Protein and Carbohydrate can help if you feel “Hangry” all the time.
  2. Not Enough Sleep. I used to work for a Naturopathic doctor back in the 1980s, and he used to preach sleep to help get you healthy. Because your body only produces a finite amount of energy per day, he didn’t want people” wasting it” doing things prohibitive to the healing process. Not getting enough sleep and wasting energy needlessly can hinder the transition from sugar burner to fat burner.
  3. Poor Quality Fats and Oils. Keto is a great way to lose weight. There is a version of the diet called “quick” or “dirty” keto. This version sacrifices food quality for food quantity, to give you quick weight loss. Last podcast was all about Good Fats vs Bad Fats, and I’d direct you there for more information on this subject. Suffice it to say, sacrificing your health for quick weight loss shouldn’t be the reason to start a ketogenic lifestyle.
  4. Digestive Environment. This deals with the ph of your gut. You want to create an acidic environment there so that foods get digested and metabolized (used). If you have stomach issues, problems with digestion, or conditions like reflux, this could be hindering your ketogenic results.
